I am pleased to offer you the 34th edition of Tea4Free News. Amazing, we started this newsletter 6 years ago in April, 2002. Just as our newsletter has evolved, so too has Tea Connexions.
We started Tea Connexions in a 200 square foot office in 1998 in Saskatoon, SK. Our company has grown and today we are based out of a 2500 square foot office in Kingston, ON with warehousing in Upstate, NY. Our growth is a direct result of our commitment to our customers, who we strive to serve exceptionally by offering gourmet teas beautifully packaged and most importantly superior service.
Everyone at Tea Connexions is well aware that our future growth is dependent on our ability to retain and serve our customers.
We are constantly striving to grow our customer base. This is the reason for all of the changes in the past years. Through refinement of our current business programs, we are one of the only tea companies that provides aspiring tea entrepreneurs--teapreneurs--the opportunity to profit from the growing demand for tea. Specialty tea is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world. The United States is the hottest growth market for the tea industry, following a similar growth trend as specialty coffee did.
To capitalize on this trend, Tea Connexions recently launched our new membership program consisting of the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Membership programs. If you wish to learn more, please visit Leaf Tea Biz Dot Com.
I am most excited about Healthy Cup Dot Com because it enables aspiring teapreneurs with less investment capital to start a tea business with a website for a low cost. Included with the Agency and Super-Agency programs is the ability to order product at below wholesale, product, marketing tools, training, etc. meaning Agents and Super-Agents can have both an online and offline tea business, capitalizing from the power of the Internet and most importantly daily tea marketing activities in their communities. For a clear summary of these business programs, please click here.
As a final note, I want you to visit Healthy Cup Dot Com because we also launched a separate tea contest, now you have two chances to win. To learn more about the healthy cup free tea contest click here.
P.S. Feel free to forward this newsletter to friends and family. Ultimately, our hope is that more and more people will begin adding tea to their diet--not only for its health benefits--but because of the great taste. Hot or cold, tea is satisfying and has life giving nutrients. No wonder tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, next to water. Cheers!

Studies by neuroscientists show that tea, along with it's host of other health benefits, may also have potential as a treatment for Attention Deficit Disorder. John Foxe, a professor of neuroscience and an expert on the mechanisms of attention at the City University of New York, says reports dating back thousands of years suggest that drinking tea helps you relax, but more recent results show it also helps you stay more alert. The amino acid theanine, which is found in green, black, and oolong teas, causes a decrease in the brain's "alpha rhythms" during performance of tasks requiring a great deal of attention. The study finds that theanine and caffeine combined provide the most impressive results. Other early brain research into Parkinson's and Alzheimer's carried out in Israel found that the main antioxidant in tea appears to curb brain cell death and encourage repair of neurons.
3. Health Tip - Ginger Tea Ginger tea is most often used as a cold remedy. Its benefits include boosting the immune system, soothing sore throats, and treating bouts of flu. Many swear by ginger's ability to improve digestion and help relieve nausea.
Other benefits of ginger tea include:
Improves circulation and blood flow
Eases stomach cramps
Reduces menstrual cramping
Helps regulate blood sugar
Boosts the immune system
In the early 1900s, ginger was the source of superstitions. Growing a ginger plant in the house by placing gingerroot in water, for example, was said to attract health and prosperity. Another myth suggested that ginger's warming effects be used to "warm up the heart": in other words, that ginger would make the people who eat it feel warmer and consequently more loving toward their neighbors. Ginger tea is a spicy drink that will give you energy, and ward off a variety of ailments.
Gun Powder Green Tea
Darjeeling Gunpowder, also known as "Green Pearls", is a type of Green tea made from the unfermented leaf. These leaves are gently steamed within hours of being plucked, then skillfully rolled into tight small pellets. After the drying process, these pellets look remarkably like gunshot or gunpowder giving the tea its descriptive name. This process preserves its delicate flavour and aroma far longer than other green teas. Rich in fluoride, calcium and antioxidants, it is well known for its strong, bitter taste, and is often enjoyed by coffee drinkers who are switching to green tea. This tea is best suited without milk. (50 grams/1.75 ounces)

5. Green Tea for Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms The green tea compound EGCG may be a potential treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Scientists from the University of Michigan Medical School say that preliminary lab results show that EGCG may reduce inflammation and joint damage in rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. Joint cells called synovial fibroblasts were exposed to an inflammatory chemical linked to RA. The affected cells treated with the compound, produced lower levels of two other inflammatory chemicals than cells that hadn't been treated with EGCG. The highest dose of EGCG virtually halted production of those inflammatory chemicals during testing. Salah-uddin Ahmed, PhD says the compound may be of potential therapeutic value in regulating the joint destruction in RA. The amount of tea needed to see this type of result was not reported.

7. Drink Tea for Strong Bones An Australian study found that elderly women who drank tea had a higher hip bone density and reduced bone loss compared to women that did not drink tea. The study's authors say these results confirm previous studies that found drinking tea protects against bone loss and osteoporosis.
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published results of the study of 275 women ages 70-85, who were part of a 5 year study of calcium supplements and osteoporosis, that reviewed how much black and green tea they drank. The tea drinkers had a higher bone density than the non-tea drinkers. The number of cups consumed did not relate to any changes in the results. Smoking history and use of calcium supplements was taken into account.
The results, published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, showed that women who were regular tea drinkers had higher bone density in two sites in the hip compared with non-tea drinkers. Amanda Devine, of the University of Western Australia in Perth stated that overall, their data supported the concept that tea intake has beneficial effects on bone structure by reducing bone loss. Previous studies have shown that flavonoids, phytochemicals in tea may provide protection against bone loss due to estrogen-like properties.

This issue of Tea 4 Free News - was written by Mary-Ellen Tessier. For years, there have been a growing list of celebrities drinking green tea. Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow and Oprah are just a few of the celebrities that drink it for its health benefits. You don't have to be a celebrity to know that more and more studies of green tea's health benefits are released every day.
Many of my friends and family have been drinking it for years. My mother-in-law Nancy, who regularly drinks lots of green tea, was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Luckily, her cancer was operable, and we are very happy to know that she will be just fine. I truly believe that her green tea consumption helped her to have such a positive outcome. Do you have a story about how you feel tea's health benefits had a significant effect on you or someone you love? Send your stories to mary-ellen@teaconnexions.com.
