Dear Tea Friends,

Welcome to 2008! We hope you had a relaxing and enjoyable Xmas and New Years.

The Gupta Family tried to do very little over the holidays. We had a very busy 2007 and just focussed on rest and relaxation during company downtime. It was a nice relaxing period, must admit it was difficult to get up and running in the New Year after such a hectic 2007. :-)

We accomplished many planning and re-structuring objectives in 2007. It was a transition year for the business, less focus on growth, more focus on re-structuring and setting the stage for future growth.

Now that the stage is set, in 2008 our main priority is simple: To Grow the Business and Distribution. We will accomplish this objective by offering five (5) new tea programs that meet the needs of most teapreneurs.

1. Membership Program. Over the years we have changed our membership program and tried new things to make it better. This month we launched our new program, which draws from the experience we gained in the past 7 years. Highlights include exclusive territories, financing, product, marketing tools, volume rebates, and training. This is our Major League program suited for entrepreneurs who want to start a tea business and turn it into a full time venture. The key to our new program is simplicity. We have stream lined the program and made it much easier to understand.

2. Healthy Cup. This program was developed in response to many opportunity seekers wanting a simple and cost effective tea business to start. For less than $500, one can start an online tea business.

3. E-Marketer. Designed specifically for web designers who want to build their own tea site and utilize our drop shipping service.

4. Key Stone Wholesaler. With a minimum order of only $100, anyone can start a wholesale tea business.

5. Tea Party. This program has launched in MO and will be launching in other regions that have Exclusive Area Distributors. As new EAD territories are secured, local party programs will begin. The key is local supply and service.

If you are interested in learning more about any of the opportunities outlined above and have not already inquired about starting a tea business, please visit www.leafteabiz.com.

I am very proud of the new programs and offerings and strongly believe we offer hope and opportunity to individuals that want to start a tea business.

If you have questions or want to learn more about any of the above, feel free to give us a call, 613-887-2344.

Drink Tea and Prosper!

Cheers!

Yours sincerely,

Sanjay Gupta

2. List of Green Tea Benefits Continue to Grow
Preliminary research has found that green tea can prevent colorectal cancer based on studies presented at the American Association for Cancer Research's Sixth Annual International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research in Philedelphia. Researchers from Rutgers University in New Jersey fed polyphenols from green tea to rats with colorectal cancer. Study results showed that the rat's tumors were reduced by 45 percent. Researchers said that although the benefit of the polyphenols was not clear in humans, the equivalent amount of polyphenols tested would be approximately 4-6 cups of green tea a day.

Green tea has also been credited with reducing the risk of breast cancer because of it's powerful antioxidants. It has been said to stabilize blood lipids, making it part of a heart friendly routine.

Other potential benefits of green tea include help in lowering high cholesterol, high triglycerides, hypertension, and boosting immune function. It may also lower the potential of arteriosclerosis. Research indicates that it prevents cardiovascular disease by stabilizing the ratio of LDL and HDL cholesterol, reducing blood cell clotting, and lowering blood pressure.

It has been said that green tea helps relieve mental tiredness, and can be helpful in treating infections of the digestive tract. Traditional medicine practitioners have been known to use it to treat migraines. Previous studies have found it prevents plaque builup on the teeth, which may prevent cavities. As if that is not enough, catechins, a class of polyphenols, speed up the metabolization of fats by the liver, which inhibits a fat absorbtion enzyme in the digestive tract, resulting a feeling of "fullness". This can result in subsequent weight loss.

A recent study in European Jourmal of Neuroscience, reports that consumption of black and green teas on a regular basis may reduce the risk of Alzhiemer's disease. Findings in the study indicated tea extracts and catechins blocked the death of neurons.

5. Black Tea May Provide A Natural Alternative to Chemical Sunscreen
Black Tea gel may absorb UV rays and repair DNA damage inside the skin according to a study published in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science.

Research shows that topical application of black tea gel greatly protects against skin redness after UV light exposure. Protection is said to peak in the UVB range which is responsible for sunburns. They note the gel can be applied without any toxicological concerns. Results were less impressive for UVA rays, which play a role in aging of skin and contribute to skin cancer risk.

The black tea gel also shows skin repair properties. The study was conducted on 6 particpants, where researchers applied an aqueous black tea gel n a three cm2 patch on the forearm. The square (and a control patch of similar size but without the black tea gel) was then exposed to UV radiation with the rest of the arm was protected. The results provide a promising option in the on-going quest to find natural alternatives to sunscreen, in light of concerns about chemicals in cosmetics. The black tea gel, may also provide a cost effective future method of protection.

Origins of Hibiscus Tea

Hibiscus tea is thought to have originated in ancient Egypt. It is also known as "karkady" or "karkade" in the Arab world. Made from the flowers of hibiscus sabdariffa, is served in homes and restaurants around the world, but particularly in Egypt. It is also used a a base for some children's teas. It's tangy taste is not the only reason for it's popularity, it also has been said to have a number of medicinal benefits. The flowers are rich in vitamin C, have been credited with increasing appetite and can be a laxative or diuretic. Other health benefits have included improving circulation and reducing cholesterol. Add honey, lemon, orange peel or juice or blend with dried fruit or a regular variety of tea.

7. Boosting the Antioxidants in Your Green Tea

A Purdue University statement suggests that adding citrus juices or vitamin C may raise the level of antioxidants in green tea. Catechins, suggested to be responsible for prevention of cancer, heart attack and stroke, are said to be significantly increased in the study published in the Journal Molecular Nutrition and Food Research. Author of the study, Mario Feruzzi, attributes the benefits to simple chemistry. The assistant professor of food science tested green tea, with a number of different additives using a laboratory model simulating digestion in the stomach and small intestine. Citrus juice increased absorbable catechin levels by more than 5 times, while vitamin C or ascorbic acid boosted recoverable levels of the antioxidants by 6 and 13 times in lab animals. These interact with catechins, preventing degradation in the intestines according to Ferruzzi.

This issue of Tea 4 Free News - was written by Mary-Ellen Tessier. There are many different Valentine's celebrations around the world. In the Phillipines, literally thousands of couples gather together for Lovapalooza, to set the world record for most couples kissing at the same time. It is a tradition to get engaged on Valentine's Day in Italy. Flowers, candy and gifts are exchanged all over the world. My husband Mike and I strive every year to find a unique gift or experience to show each other that we still love each other after 18 years. We also make sure our miniature dacshund Maggie gets a birthday gift (we jokingly call her the "love dog" as a result). Whether you quietly celebrate with cinnamon loose tea and a decadent dessert, or spend the whole day creating a romantic extravaganza for those most special, Happy Valentine's Day, may you feel as special as you have on your favourite Valentine's Day, every day of the year!
