Christmas is upon us again. It marks a period of joy, time with family, and friends, and of course the end of another year.
It is hard to believe that Tea 4 Free has been operational since 2001, with the first newsletter being published in 2002. Over these years, our tea line has grown from 15 items to 209 and our business has grown considerably.
I am very thankful to all of our Distributors, customers, business partners, and suppliers. Thanks to all.
On behalf of Tea Connexions, I wish to extend the best of wishes for this Xmas season and a happy and prosperous New Year.
Yours sincerely,
Sanjay Gupta

85% of the tea sold in the U.S. is iced tea. For many years, coffee was the hot beverage of choice, but that is rapidly changing. Even though its one of the oldest beverages being consumed, it's as popular as any brand new product. The Tea Association of USA says sales in the U.S. have for the most part quadrupled since 1990. Tea bags and ready to drink teas are popping up even in unlikely places. There's also been a massive increase in premium tea sales, proving that more and more tea drinkers are demanding higher quality teas.
Black tea, which has often been referred to as the least healthy of teas, is now turning out to be surprisingly heart healthy, and shows a newly discovered ability to keep arteries elastic and healthy. Oolong tea, the least studied of all tea varieties, is showing strong anti-aging and anti-viral properties. White tea turns out to have the highest antioxidant profile of all!

Adults who drank 3 or more cups of green tea a day in a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association had a lower chance of dying of cardiovascular disease. The study carried out a University School in Japan, reported on over 40,000 adults aged 40-79 over an 11 year period. Those who consumed 5 or more cups of tea per day had a 16 percent lower risk of death and a 26 percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease than participants who consumed less than 1 cup of tea per day. The study concluded that if green tea protects against cardiovascular disease and cancer, drinking green tea would substantially contribute to prolonging life expectancy.

A recent article in Nutraceuticals World Magazine discussed the popularity of using the words "anti-aging" to describe products and foods. The U.S. Tea Association asked their legal advisors to provide their opinion of how these claims relate to the tea industry.
This is a summary of their observations. "Tea contains antioxidants and phytonutrients, that positively impact a number of systems, including systems that deteriorate with age. Tea companies may lawfully make structure/function claims about the role of tea as long as the claims can be backed up with studies or journal articles."
The type of claims you may need to be wary of are those such as "take 10 years off the age of your heart" or "make your face look 10 years younger". This type of claim would be much more difficult to substantiate.
Compared to other industries, there are many more studies that show the many benefits of tea, and the U.S. tea association concluded that tea is one of those rare foods that appears to do nothing but good things for those who consume it.

With all the claims about weight loss in regards to Oolong tea, it's time to take a closer look. Oolong tea or as some call it, Woolong tea, is semi fermented, half black and half green tea. Oolong means "Black Dragon" in Chinese, and is often referred to as red tea, as that's the color it looks when steeped. Black tea is processed over two or more days in a cool location, while oolong is placed in direct sunlight for only a few hours.
Though antioxidants are removed during processing, Oolong still contains large amounts of polyphenols.
Some of the health benefits include: reduced cell mutations, resulting in lowered cancer rates; neutralization of free radicals, slowing the aging process and preventing skin damage; Improves dermatitis; aids in weight loss, by metabolizing fat and increasing the number of calories burned; helps prevent tooth decay; and prevents blood clotting and reduces cholesterol.
Oolong tea has ¼ of the caffeine in coffee, and ½ the caffeine in black tea. If all these benefits aren't enough, it has been said that Oolong tea is a great beverage to drink when you have an upset stomach.
