Many of the articles we feature contain the health benefits of drinking tea. This article will examine the research that has been made concerning black and green tea and their effects on cancer of the lungs, colon, digestive track and mouth.
Oral Cancer: A study conducted by Junshi Chen, M.D. of the Chinese Academy of Preventative Medicine in Beijing has shown evidence of the protective effects of tea on human cancer. Dr. Chen completed a six month study of patients with diagnosed pre-cancerous oral lesion. It was found that treatment with a mixture of black and green tea components that was consumed and applied topically greatly improved the clinical signs and repressed the increase of pre-cancerous cells. The results of the study suggested that development of pre-cancerous cells in the mouth may be delayed by tea treatment.
Lung Cancer: Research by Fung-Lung Chung, Ph.D, American Health Foundation, found that both green and black tea consumption slowed down the progression of lung cancer induced by the carcinogens found in tobacco. A related study by J.E. Klaunig, Ph D., Dept. of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Indiana University School of Medicine also found the consumption of tea reduced the level of oxidative stress, especially in smokers.
Colon Cancer: Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S. Studies conducted by Roderick H. Dashwood, Ph D. of the Linus Pauling Institute, Oregon State University, found that the consumption of black and green tea repressed the development of very premature, pre-cancerous cells.
Digestive Cancers: Researchers from the National Cancer Institute have discussed research linking tea consumption to decreased risk of digestive tract and other cancers. There have also been preclinical studies indicating there are defensive effects of black and green tea on pre-cancerous cells.
Not only has tea been indicated as a cancer cell fighter in each of these categories, but the benefits of tea extend beyond this particular disease. Research has indicated that tea has a greater antioxidant power than many fruits and vegetables. Not to mention research also suggests that drinking tea is a preventative measure against cardiovascular disease and stroke. Otherwise summed up: Drink tea, it's good for your health!

Teatime: can it increase your lifetime? Yes and no. Diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular disease are considered lifestyle and aging related. Since green tea is no accepted as a cancer preventative and is reported to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, then if you increase your consumption of tea, you in fact delay the negative effects of both diseases. Therefore, tea is not a magic pill from the fountain of youth, but can help you live longer by avoiding premature death by such diseases as cardiovascular disease and cancer.
If an apple a day keeps the doctor away.then a cup of tea keeps teeth cavity free! Several studies on tea and oral health demonstrated that tea has protective benefits against dental carries and gum disease.
Once again: A cup of tea keeps teeth cavity free!
Thirsty? Feeling dehydrated? Drink Tea! A common misconception is that because tea contains caffeine which is a diuretic (it makes the drinker urinate more), it can't be added to our body's daily fluid requirements. Research has recently proven otherwise and found that caffeinated beverages such as tea do contribute to the body's fluid needs. The negative effects of a caffeinated beverage, as far as hydration is concerned, were found to come into effect only when a person drinks more than five or six cups at a time. So, sip, sip away!

Green tea the Flu Fighter! Studies show that the polyphenols in green tea decrease the infectivity of the flu. A study in the August 2005 journal Antiviral Research examined the research from the experiments the authors conducted to examine tea against three current flu viruses. They found that the compounds which are found in tea were successful in dropping the plaque forming abilities of the viruses. Other experiments demonstrated the flu was more inhibited by higher concentration of the green tea polyphenols. The authors note that, "dietary uptake of tea would be beneficial for direct intervention of influenza virus infection."
