2. Reason's to trade coffee for tea.Just a Few
1) Tea contains less caffeine than coffee -> coffee has approximately two to three times more caffeine than tea.
2) Tea contains fluoride and tannins that may help keep your teeth free of plaque.
3) Tea boosts your immune system -> a study on 21 volunteers demonstrated that between tea and coffee, the tea drinkers had higher immune system activity in their blood.
4) Tea increases your metabolism -> a study demonstrated that drinking five cups green tea a day will burn 70-80 additional calories.
5) Health Characteristics -> both have antioxidants; however tea has been associated with preventing cancer and heart disease while coffee has not.
6) Tea can be used for other things than drinking. read the Tea Bits to find out more.

3. White versus Green tea
Researchers at the Linus Pauling Institute have found reason to believe that white tea is more effective as a potential anticarcinogen than green tea. White tea is the least processed tea variety as it is not withered like the other varieties but simply dried and steamed. White tea also contains a higher content of tea buds which are covered in very fine silver hairs, lending a grayish white color to the brew. In the study, researchers compared rats that were given white tea and caffeine. The results showed that the rats given white tea had significantly fewer pre-cancerous lesions.

Researchers also tested the effectiveness of white tea to inhibit mutations in bacteria as well as mutagenicity. White tea was found to have higher concentrations of polyphenols than green tea. However, white tea was also shown to have a higher level of caffeine than green tea. To read the full article click here.

4. Tea bits:
Tea and stinky toes
Surprisingly enough, tea is a great foot deodorizer. Don't believe us? Try it. boil 1 quart /liter of water add 4-5 tea bags (we recommend Tea Connexions Mint Tea to add mint freshness) and soak your feet for 30 minutes. Remove your feet and let air dry.
Benefits of Cinnamon
American researchers believe the MHCP in cinnamon is largely responsible for reviving the ability of fat cells in diabetics to respond to insulin, and an improved removal of glucose. The benefits of cinnamon, including providing magnesium, are such that researchers recommend that type II diabetics take a ¼-1 tsp. of cinnamon a day.
Tenderize meat with tea
Steep a tea bag in a glass of cold water for 30 minutes. Then pour over uncooked meat, chicken or seafood and let sit for 5 minutes. Remove meat, chicken or seafood and cook as desired. The tannin in the tea acts as a meat tenderizer, giving a velvety texture.

5. Tea NEWS: Green tea may fight Alzheimer's
Researchers believe an ingredient in tea may protect the brain from Alzheimer's. The specific ingredient is an antioxidant called epigallocatechin-3-gallate or (EGCG), which is a protein that decreases production of betamyloid- the protein that forms the plaques that clog the brains of Alzheimer's victims.

The researchers injected genetically programmed mice with an Alzheimer's-like disease with ECGC and found it decreased plaque formation by 54 percent.

Alzheimer's affects almost 4.5 million people in the U.S. and is a progressive disorder causing memory loss. Scientists are trying to develop both a tea and supplemental pills containing ECGC to combat the disease.

7. Once Upon A Tea Time.
This issue's featured story is from Asha, from Alberta:

Whenever anyone in our family of 4 is sick, I automatically make my favorite medicine, a hot cup of tea with a twist. The drink is made with green tea freshly brewed with water that has been boiled with a couple slices of ginger, lemon, a dash of pepper and honey to taste. That cup of tea, a warm blanket and lots of cuddles are my prescription for a cold. It almost makes having a cold worth it, especially when it is a cold winter day outside. It makes us feel warm and cozy and very loved - Asha
