1. Introduction

Welcome to our first issue of the Tea 4 Free News - Teazine. I am thrilled that so many visitors continue to enter our contest. This year, we have already chosen six winners. Once monthly entries reach 5000, we will announce a new winner every week - so tell your friends! The more entries we receive, the greater your chances of winning.

Inside this issue you will find recent contest winners, tasty recipes, health news and much more.

Our tea line presently focuses on gourmet teas from India, and in particular Darjeeling - the "Champagne of Teas." This year we plan to add 60 product lines and hold contests in conjunction with the launch of those products.

I look forward to giving away many more cups of FREE tea. Remember our motto: Gourmet Teas. Beautiful Packaging. Superior Service. Exceptional Value.

Yours sincerely,

Sanjay Gupta
President/CEO

  4. Tea and Caffeine

Although regular black and green teas contain only one third the caffeine of coffee or cola, you can reduce caffeine intake even further by following these simple steps.
  • Pour water over loose tea leaves
  • Wait 30 seconds (no longer or you'll lose flavor, vitamins and antioxidant effects).
  • Pour off that first infusion.
  • Brew tea as usual.

  5. Health to a Tea

Flavanoids Zero in on Free Radicals
Flavanoids, the antioxidant found in tea, neutralise free radicals, the molecules that cause cell-damaging chemical reactions. The BBC reported in a 1999 study that consuming one cup of tea daily reduces the risk of heart attack by about 50%. Hot or iced, tea retains its flavanoids, so enjoy it either way.

Tea Council of Canada's annual convention speakers confirmed that both black and green tea have "naturally high levels of antioxidants that may protect against heart disease, stroke and certain types of cancers."

Cinnamon Knocks Out E-coli and boosts Glucose Metabolism
Not only is our favorite spiced tea "cinnfully" delicious, but it has proven medicinal qualities too.

Cinnamon and E. Coli
A study appearing in Restaurants & Institutions magazine (September 1999) indicated that cinnamon eliminated E. coli bacteria in fresh produce and unpasteurized fruit juices. One teaspoon of cinnamon was added to juice containing E. coli at levels 100 times that typically found in contaminated food. After three days, 99.5% of the bacteria had disappeared. Combined with small amounts of sodium benzoate or potassium sorbate (both approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration), the E.coli vanished.

Cinnamon and Diabetes
Agricultural Research magazine (July 2000) reported on a study which indicated extracts from cinnamon boost insulin sensitivity. The study revealed that cinnamon's most active compound, methylhydroxy chalcone polymer (MHCP) -- increased glucose metabolism (the process in which cells convert glucose to energy). The study also reported that MHCP prevented the formation of damaging oxygen radicals in blood platelets. Since MHCP's powers are unleashed in water, it is activated during tea brewing.

Want to increase your tea and your cinnamon intake? Try these palate-pleasing potables and power snacks using our very special blend of Darjeeling leaftea and natural cinnamon bark. (And yes, tea is edible, its leaves come from the Camellia sinensis plant.)

Be sure to adjust amounts to suit your taste. We'd love to hear your comments.

Cinny Shake

Mix until fully blended:
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon Tea
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
Top with a cloud of whipped cream. Makes one 16 oz glass.

Cinnamon Crunch Muffins

Preheat oven to 375F. Pour 8 ounces boiling water over 4 teaspoons of Cinnamon Tea. Cover and steep 5 minutes. Discard tea leaves. Cool tea.
  • In a large bowl, combine
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
With pastry knives, cut 1/2 cup butter or margarine into the flour mixture.

Combine cooled tea, 1 tsp. Vanilla and 2 large, beaten eggs. Make a well in the center of the flour and blend in the tea mixture.

Fold in 1 cup chopped toasted walnuts.

Spoon into muffin tins and bake 20 minutes. Makes 12 nutritious muffins.

Instant Cinnamon Yogurt

Combine 2 teaspoons of Cinnamon Tea with 16 ounces plain yogurt. Stir in 2 tablespoons honey and let stand for two minutes until the herbs have softened. Makes a tasty instant breakfast.

  9. Tea Trivia

* To submit tea trivia, e-mail us.

i) Chinese Emperor Shen Nung discovered tea in 2737 B.C. when a tea leaf accidentally fell into the bowl of water he was drinking!

ii) The British have not always been tea drinkers! The British afternoon tea ritual only began in the 19th century when the Duchess of Bedford invited a few friends in for tea and treats.

iii) Tea took a full year to first arrive in Canada but since 1716 the beverage has steadily gained popularity. Today up to 92% of Canadians sip the delicious, healthful substance. Canadian tea sales reached $250 million in 1999. In the more heavily populated US, wholesale tea sales increased 130% in a decade reaching more than $4.6 billion in 1999.
